Found in spring 2014 this specimen is a fine example for its unique kind. The striking turquoise Paraiba-color is caused by copper and catches the eye instantly. Analysis identified this mineral as the extremely rare tridymite crystobalite opal. The opal is grown over colorless quartz as you can well see on the broken backside. The front also shows some damage but best color and the sheer rareness of this mineral more than make up for this little deficiency. Absolutely outstanding!
We all know the superb quartz and amethyst crystals from Goboboseb but this specimen is something very special. A white prismatic quartz crystal with a deeply purple scepter-head atop. The contrast is just striking, the quality is exceptional with mirroring luster and a gemmy interior. Through the vitreous crystal with purple clouds you can see the pyramidal termination of the white quartz. Absolutely outstanding and striking in person!
A sculpturesque floater specimen of vanadinite on matrix. The crystals are up to 1.5 cm in diameter and richly distributed all over the piece. The individual crystals are sharp, lustrous and gemmy red. The backside of the specimen is completely covered in some light grey coating which also affects the vanadinites but that's hardly visible from the front. The condition is perfect, no damage anywhere!
This is a large cluster of cuboctahedral pyrite crystals with nice golden luster. Finding flaws on this piece is hard work that does not pay at all. All crystals are in great condition. Its a beautiful sight having all different crystal sizes from really tiny up to around 3.5 cm in diameter. Additionally there is lovely white calcite present to add some nice accents. This is definitely a great piece of impressive size and remarkable quality!
Rarely have we seen gwindel as beautiful and distinctive as this one. Imposing in size and quality this specimen definitely draws the attention. Most exceptional though is the chlorite coating that adds a wonderful greenish coloring to this piece. Very often do we see such a coating disrupting the harmony of quartz specimen but fortunately no here where there is just enough but not too much of chlorite present. The inner body of the gwindel is virtually free of cracks and marvelously glassy. The bottom is recrystallized finalizing a piece in overall superb condition. Impressive and elegant alike this is a truly exceptional gwindel!
A nice calcite from the famous Tsumeb mine in the shape of a sparkling white flame. The thin rock matrix is completely covered by small rhombohedral calcite that are mostly colorless but with a slight pinkish tinge.
A small, doubly terminated Liddicoatite crystals of amazing color-play. The crystal does not need much light to reveal its intense colors that range from apple green to a juicy raspberry red and some yellow patches. The terminations are perfect, as is the rest of this fine crystal. A thumbnail specimen soaked with impressive colors!
A lovely adularia floater that's overgrown with hematite, forming a very well developed and lustrous iron rose. The combination of adularia and hematite is quite characteristic for Fibbia although the tightness of this connection is unusual. With no damage and very good quality this is a most desirable little piece!
A well shaped specimen of pyrargerite on metallic galena matrix. The pyrargyrite is arranged as two towering aggregates with sparkling, gemmy red individual crystals up to 3.5 mm.
A massy, translucent adularia crystal of greenish white color, slightly chloritized on all sides. The surface is alternating matt and lustrous. This specimen is a floater and free of any damage. An imposing piece of nice 3-dimensional aesthetics!
It's a very nice floater specimen of completely colorless, transparent quartz. Around the base there is some silvery chlorite over quartz which adds contrast. The backside of the main quartz is intergrown with chlorite as well but still very well defined. The tip is somewhat rough with edge-wear but the overall condition is very good with no actual damage.
Rich pink color dramatically radiates from this single crystal fluorite even at roomlight but is spectacularly amplified at direct backlight. A fascinating crystal in person that is completely clear at the inside with a flawless silky surface all around. At the lower right you see the imprint of another crystal. The backside is slightly etched and has an organic look. Unlike famous Swiss fluorite sources like Frunthorn or the Gotthard massif, the Furkahorn only produced few pieces of importance. The dramatic size and quality of this very specimen absolutely stand out!
