This large 8 cm gwindel is from the one time historic find by Josef Kolb in july 1977 which yielded a small number of superb gwindel specimens. While quartz from the Rauris valley is well known and relatively common, the gwindel habit is extremely rare and almost impossible to come by!
As is characteristic for the find this specimen has chloritized tips but a lustrous and clear front and backside through which you can look right through the glassy crystal body. With great condition, dramatic elongated habit and a distinct twist this gwindel specimen is a stunning specimen from a very well known and documented historic find!

What is interesting is that the hematite reaches the surface at some parts on the backside which makes for a nice and very natural look. Condition is overall good. There is a broken side-crystal on the back and some contacts around the base but nothing distracting from the overall beauty of this fine quartz.

AT05 - Quartz Gwindel - Sold
Val Giuv, Tujetsch, Vorderrhein Valley, Graubünden, Switzerland
Size: 6.2 x 4.6 x 3.5 cm

WOW, what a stunning group of two gwindels and one regular smoky quartz forming this great specimen. I have never seen such a combination in the past. This specimen comes from the recent find made this summer in Val Giuv and it is one of the best specimens from this pocket. The bottom side of this group is completely rehealed, while many of the other specimens are heavily damaged at the base. The crystals are translucent and show the typical bright smoky color which is well known for this locale. It is very lustrous with sharp edges and it is very 3-dimensional in person. The amazing aesthetics of this specimen in combination with the beautiful quality makes this group really extraordinary. A gorup like this is much more rare then a sinlge gwindel, what makes it to a big challenge to get one like this. Comes mounted on a custom base for display.
